2025 Truck Parking Study

WisDOT is currently conducting a truck parking study in Wisconsin. These efforts reflect growing national and state concerns over lack of legal parking at safety rest areas, leading to unsafe truck parking in those and other places. This study, anticipated to be completed in summer 2026, will use onboard technology to identify locations where trucks are currently parking. In addition, an online survey will be conducted of drivers, trucking companies, and truck stop operators to learn where they see the greatest concerns for truck parking. Together, results from these efforts will help inform WisDOT on where the trucking sector sees the greatest needs for additional parking. This survey will be open until January 19, 2026.

Truck Drivers, Owner Operators, Trucking Companies, Truck Stop Owners, Dispatchers, and other industry stakeholders.

How long will the survey take?

The basic survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Will the survey be anonymous?

The survey does not request any personally identifiable information; however, all records may be subject to Open Records requests.

What is required to complete the survey?

You need an internet connection and about 10 minutes of your time.

Can I complete the survey on my phone or tablet?

Yes! The survey is mobile-friendly.

Do I have to answer every question?

No, but we encourage you to answer as many questions as possible to help us gather comprehensive data.

Will my answers autosave?

No, you must click submit to save your responses. However, if you close your browser and do not clear your browser’s “cookies”, you can reopen the survey later to continue where you left off.

What specific data is being collected?

We are collecting opinions about parking availability, challenges faced, and desired amenities from truckers and related parties.

How will the results be shared?

WisDOT will publish a summary report describing the survey findings.
